RESOURCE LIBRARY

This resource library contains engaging health education workshops and resources that can be executed in local communities. The materials are designed to empower adults and their families to make healthy food, nutrition and lifestyle choices. Some activities include:

  • Healthy Foods Discovery – Kids Cooking Demo
  • Picky Eaters No More!
  • Eating Healthy from Your Garden

Facilitator instructions are included in each workshop, enabling community center staff and volunteers to implement locally.

These workshops were developed by the American Heart Association and support the shared commitment with Aramark to improve the health of Americans 20 percent by 2020.

General Healthy Eating and Nutrition

Added Sugar is Not So SweetAdd to cart

Reducing added sugar can improve a person’s diet. This guided exercise includes insightful educational materials that encourage participants to start thinking about where added sugars are in their diet and how they can replace them with healthier options.  Materials include the Added Sugars Infographic, designed to make participants aware of the common sources of added sugars.

The My Life Check Health® Assessment workshop provides participants with a personalized heart score and health risk assessment, raising their awareness of their current health status and empowering them to make healthier choices in their daily lives. This workshop includes everything you need to facilitate the assessment including the Life Simple 7 and My Life Check for Kids Booklets. Through this workshop participants will gain an understanding of the measures indicative of overall health and wellness.

This quick and easy workshop will provide parents and caregivers with effective tips and strategies for dealing with picky eaters, helping their kids grow up healthy, energized and fulfilled. Learn how to have an engaging conversation and get kids to make healthier food choices every day.

Sodium Swap ChallengeAdd to cart

Learning how to replace salt with other flavors can improve your health. The Sodium Swap Challenge includes infographics and an activity that will encourage adults to design a three-week plan to reduce the amount of salt in their diet, which can help improve blood pressure and overall health as a result! Materials include the Salty 6 infographic that outlines the 6 foods that contribute the most sodium to the average American’s diet. At the end of this workshop, participants will gain an awareness of the common sources of sodium in their diet and design a plan to reduce their overall salt intake.

Knowing the health of family members can raise awareness of important aspects of your own health. This workshop is designed to provide participants with an awareness of the health statuses and histories of their family members. The Your Family Tree of Health workshop includes the Family Tree of Health infographic, a resource that will aid in the discovery process. At the end of this activity, participants will increase their awareness of their own risks.

 

Shopping Healthy at Your Grocery Store

Cooking at home can help families save money; even when cooking healthy! Participants will learn the importance of making a grocery list to avoid impulse purchases that can sabotage budget and healthy intentions.  This workshop leverages the Simple Cooking with Heart Grocery Guide to educate participants about planning healthy meals on a budget, stocking a healthy pantry, how to read nutrition labels and making a grocery list that supports their family’s health and financial goals.
